Avoiding Chaotic Meals
By the time I’ve finished working all day and have battled through evening rush hour traffic, the last thing I want to deal with at home is more chaos. It’s taken a long time, but my wife and I have come up with some ways that work well for our family to make dinner time a little bit more relaxed and less anxious.

Little kids can get majorly bored. My four-year-old son Michael, when he gets bored (and that’s every night), hops around like a jackrabbit with its tail on fire, bouncing off of this bit of furniture and that, twirling and spinning, knocking over whatever might be in his path. It’s not a pretty sight.

Mud Bog Races - Fun Father Son Day
Every year the local fire company puts on a very popular event on the outskirts of our city. It’s called a mud bog, which is essentially drag racing for country folk. We live in what is called a suburb of Washington, DC, but it is still very much a rural area at the base of the Allegheny mountains. People come from far-and-wide for three things around here - karaoke, gun bonanzas and the annual mud bog races.

We’re fortunate to live in an area where we have access to three zoos. The National Zoo is less than an hour away. The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is within two hours. The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo is only thirty minutes from our house, so it was an easy choice to pick for a family fun day.

Family Fun at the Beach and Boardwalk
We went on a short family vacation last week to Ocean City for four days. The kids had a blast playing on the beach, even though the water felt like we had a swim call on an Alaskan cruise liner. I don’t understand the science behind ocean water temperature

Memories that Last a Lifetime
We went up to the mountains a few weekends ago. We had the opportunity to rent a quaint little cabin form a friend of Aline’s on the cheap, so we jumped on it. If you have never spent time in the Angeles Forest, I recommend it. I’ve seen a lot of the U.S. landscape, and the California mountains are beautiful and unique in a way that few areas rival.

Action, adventure, comedy and Kung Fu - what more could a Dad want in a movie? I took my daughter Chani to see the movie Kung Fu Panda today, and I’ve got to say it was one of the best kid movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a classic good versus evil tale, [...]

Enjoying Nature - Waterfalls and Mountain Tops
I love being outside in the summertime. The warm feeling of the sun on my face; the slightly sticky feeling of a mildly humid day; and, the multitude of fun and healthy things to do with family and friends. I really enjoy going hiking, and I wish I made time to do it more often. [...]

I love the summertime. It’s definitely my favorite time of year. It’s so much easier to do things together as a family when the weather is nice outside. My oldest daughter Chani gets to spend multiple weeks with us in the summer, and having her around just warms my heart. Lori and I also planned [...]

I have a 13-year-old daughter. She talks to her friends all day long. They have in-depth conversations with each other about boys and the current dramasodes happening at school. Apparently, there is so much to talk about that it requires ongoing dialogue via Instant Messenger and text messaging throughout the day and [...]

Today was a Daddy-Daughter Day for me and my teenage daughter Chani. My in-laws were nice enough to watch my 2-year-old son Ty for a couple of days, so that we could have some time to do things Chani enjoys.
She is on spring break this week, so we have several fun activities planned for [...]
