Dads and Daughters – Make a Decision Already
I usually sprinkle my posts with apologies and disclaimers designed to absolve myself of horrible wrongdoings and complete obliteration of everything that can be remotely considered good parenting. But this time I actually know what I’m talking about. I make mistakes when parenting.

Don’t Rob Your Kids
A lot of parents rob from their children. I don’t mean they take money or possessions, I mean they take opportunities for growth. And they do it with the best of intentions.

It’s getting close to that time. You know the one I’m talking about. It’s the one every parent dreads on some level. One day you wake up and realize your first little baby is grown up and without warning, the impending doom of The Talk is upon you.

Raising Daughters
Alright, parents, it’s confession time: As dads raising daughters, we’re all at an immediate disadvantage because we’ve never known what it’s like to grow up as a little girl. Are you ready for another confession? I tend to be a “My way or the highway” sort of dad, and it’s a daily challenge to be firm with the rules while still letting my kids be kids.

Whining Drives Me Crazy
I love my kids very much. I would die for my kids. If they ask me nicely, I would do anything for my kids. When they whine though, it drives me crazy! Bill Cosby said that parents want quiet and peace. I don’t need either of those things, but what I do want is calm and normal dialogue. Rational behavior. Harmony would be a good way to put it.

Knowing When the Job is Done
One of the things I hope to do as he’s growing up is to teach my young son how to do a job the right way, from start to finish. I’d like to teach him about starting well, executing well, and finishing well.

Sweating the Small Stuff
I’ve often heard the old saw “Don’t sweat the small stuff” and the lesser-known corollary: “It’s all small stuff.” Whoever wrote these maxims must not have had to take care of any small children.

Kids – How Many Are Too Many?
This article written by Contributing Writer Matt Pfingsten. I live in Southern California. There are a LOT of people here, and the population grows exponentially every year. Traffic worsens, smog thickens and violence increases. Why don’t I just come right out and say it? It is packed full-o-people. One would be hard-pressed to find an [...]

Dad and Teacher – Choosing to Homeschool
Ten years ago, when my wife and I first decided that I should be a stay-at-home dad, most of my friends didn’t understand why I’d want to take on that challenge. Many of them abandoned me over time. Eight years later, I lost the rest of them when we made another huge family decision. To pull my son out of public school and teach him at home. I would be both “dad” and “teacher.”
22Sep2008 | Jeremy | 14 comments | ContinuedDo You Role Model Integrity for Your Kids?
Integrity is generally defined as adhering to a specific moral code or set of values. A person with integrity is someone you can trust and rely upon to do what is right, even if it’s not popular. As a parent, I believe my words and actions mean something to my kids – they watch and learn from my example, so acting with integrity is critical if I want them to grow into responsible and trustworthy individuals.

It’s easy to be frantic, stressed-out and uptight, given the kinds of trials that are foisted upon me on a daily basis. As a fresh example, not more than an hour ago as I write this, my 4-year-old son Michael brought me to my boiling point for probably the fifteenth time today.
