How wonderful this was to read! I'm a first time mom at 22 and my significant other is 43 with a 15 year old daughter of his own. Our little boy Gabriel is 4 months now and it's been quite the ride already!

He does get a little down at times that people tend to think he's the grandpa rather than the daddy, but after awhile it's become more of an ongoing joke rather than something to get down and out about.

Personally, I love the dynamics we bring to the table as parents. Daddy is older, more experienced, wiser, and somewhat more relaxed. Mommy is younger, more energetic, admittedly somewhat more confused, and up to date on the lastest parenting trends.

It warms my heart to see other older fathers here. And even moreso young women with older men. We are the only couple we know with the vast age difference. So even if it is just on the net, it's wonderful to know that we are not alone.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have two kids that we had when I was in my 30's but a slightly older friend (45yrs) is about to become a father for the first time. He is excited and predictably a little anxious. I was nervous, too, but now wouldn't trade the fatherhood experience for anything. Adding a bit of age to the equation may heighten the anxiety a little until that little person joins the tour and there you are the three of you, happy and comfortable.

Thanks again! This was great to read. - Adam

Fit Over Forty. Guys you are on the right track. For me it is about shedding of pounds that eventually I will carrying again in the shape of my baby son to be brn May 9th via adoption.

Since 11/2008 I have been runnign a 5k each month. It keeps focused on a consistant training program of just 3 days a week. I need to be fit because I want to be ready to play pitch at 54 and be at his wedding at age 69ish.

Being a daddy at 44 is AWESOME. Wiser, Fitter, Happier. Its the perfect package. But most importantly don't forget about your wife. Get sexier for her. She deserves a six pack every now and then.

Good Luck Dads
