Harry Potter Adventure of a Lifetime Contest

feature photo

The thing I love about the Harry Potter books and films are the thrills and adventures of Harry and his friends.  The mix of action, suspense and competition engages me in ways that few other stories can.  As I read these books by author J.K. Rowling, I’m reminded that life is meant to be an adventure and the journey is worth documenting.

Harry Potter Adventure of a Lifetime Contest

It’s hard to believe it’s the 10th Anniversary of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, but it does give us reason to celebrate.  I am excited to host a fun contest with outstanding prizes for fans of the Harry Potter series (even if you’re not a fan, trust me, someone you know is and these prizes will make for amazing gifts).  The contest runs from Friday, September 12th - Friday, October 10th, and it is open to people living in the U.S. and Canada.

Here’s how you enter to win the Grand Prize:

1.  If you have a blog or website, write a post about your greatest adventure in life.  Maybe it happened when you were a kid, teenager, young adult, parent or senior.  Whatever your greatest adventure in life has been, write about it and link back to this post so I can track it.  To be safe, leave a comment here too letting me know where to find your entry.

2.  Leave a comment below describing, in detail, your greatest adventure in life.  Unless you’re J.K. Rowling, please don’t write a book; however, you will be judged on this entry, so a few sentences won’t be enough to win.  Write enough to tell your story and keep a reader engaged.

You may want to use one of the Harry Potter books or adventures to jog your memory or inspire your writing.

Here’s how you enter to win the First Prize:

  5. Oh there’s one from my 7th grade year (or was it 6th grade?). It was toward the end of the school year and our entire grade which is around 90 kids or somewhere around there had discovered the venting system through this hole in the wall. Someone had found out that there was this chain where you could shimmy up and climb up. The hole was like 1 foot by 1 foot so we could squeeze in through there. The entire way up was pitch black and really creepy. So try to imagine like 30 or more so kids from 3 different classrooms crawling around in the ceiling and you hear a bunch of clanking and sometimes sneezing by the kids and with some peeking through the window vents in OTHER classrooms.

So you’re probably wondering where all the teachers were but that’s relevant is it? OK so maybe it is. I believe we had a substitute teacher that day (I’m not sure about the other classrooms and in my school we only had one teacher throughout the entire day)and we had waited until the teacher left the classroom before we all huddle around the hole while someone kept lookout. One by one we all climb up and when the teacher came back, he/she (I forget, it’s been so long…) doesn’t even notices or cares maybe. When he/she leaves again, we start to yell to come back down.

And that’s my adventure, we were some horrible kids XD and don’t worry I think someone found and we got in trouble by the teacher from another classroom.

  6. My greatest adventure to date as a woman: Natural Child Birth!

Adventure is defined as a wild and exciting undertaking…that’s exactly what regular child birth with drugs is, add an enormous amount of pain and you have the adventure of a lifetime!

My adventure started on June 2, 2008 at about 7pm. Mild contractions, I’ve done this before so no big deal, I’m going to try to go to sleep, get some rest since my husband isn’t even home yet. 10:30pm, okay, not sleeping, contractions stronger and mins. apart, time to go to the hospital. I inform my husband in the car to take the back roads, I can handle this, I don’t want to hurry up and get there just to sit and wait for hours. 11:15pm, we arrive at the hospital, LONG walk from the parking garage to the lobby but I refuse to be dropped off. EMS workers at the front desk look scared to see me walking and try to force me into a wheel chair, I am not having that! On to the elevator I walk. We arrive at the 8th floor maternity ward, I am visibly in pain and can barely stand but still holding strong. 45 mins answering questions in the “holding area”, dilation check 5cm. It’s 12am on the dot when we arrive, still walking, at the delivery room. As I get into the bed, the real adventure starts. I have to push, they tell me no you don’t. I begin to yell ever so loudly at my husband telling him I’m done, sorry, can’t do this. One nurse is trying to put an IV in, I ignore her and yell at another nurse that I’m pushing this baby out now! My doctor is a few miles away, I need to wait she says, it’s not time to push. At this point she decides to check me. AHA, 10 cms, no wonder I’m pushing she says, no time for drugs, crap…lots of running around, they grab a doctor out in the hall and by the time he’s prepared down there, one push, and screams coming out of me that sound similar to a dying pig, and baby boy flies out at 12:18am! 18 of the longest, most painful, but almost entertaining (especially for my husband) minutes of my life. An exciting, wild, once in a lifetime, adventure.
