July Contest Update and Weekly Winner

feature photo

I’m excited to announce that new sponsors are continuing to come on board for the July Discovering Dad Subscription contest.  Entering yourself in the contest is as easy as subscribing to get updates on new articles via RSS or e-mail.  Random subscribers will be selected for weekly prizes.  If you own a blog or website, then you can enter to win bigger prize packages by referring readers to Discovering Dad - the Top 3 Referring Sites for the month of July will win awesome prizes!

Weekly Winner - Random Subscriber

The first weekly winner is (drumroll please) Zoeyjane from Mommy is Moody

Congratulations!  Zoeyjane wins a Lijit Search t-shirt :-)

Monthly Contest Update - Top Referring Sites

Based on Google Analytics tracking of “unique visit” referrals, here are the Top 5 Referring Sites (excluding search and community sites):

1.  Whiskey In My Sippy Cup - 210

2.  Momo Fali - 63

3.  Secret Agent Mama - 59

4.  I Am Husband - 33

5.  D is for Dad - 24

As you can see, there is still a huge opportunity for people with blogs or websites to enter and win this contest.  Get creative! Write a recommendation; create a unique link for your sidebar; make a cool badge; let people know about the prizes you could win; or, just tell them that it’s for a good cause - to promote and support a site that encourages fathers to “learn what it means to be a good Dad!”

Contest Details

How do I enter to win the Weekly prize?

Easy! All you have to do is subscribe to get updates via RSS or e-mail, then leave a comment to let me know that you subscribed (e-mail subscribers do not need to leave a comment).

How do I enter to win the Top Referrer prize?

Just put something on your site that links to Discovering Dad.  It could be anything from adding the link to your blogroll to creating a custom badge (example - Spotlight badge) or writing a review or recommendation (example).

What are the prizes for the Top 3 Referring Sites?

I’ve expanded the prize packages from the Top 2 to the Top 3 Referring Sites based on the addition of a new contest sponsor.  I also anticipate sweetening the 3 prizes throughout the month, as I get additional sponsors to contribute more prizes.

Top Referring Site for the Month of July - $50 SmartyPig Gift Card, a t-shirt from Lijit Search and a Featured Review of your site by me on Discovering Dad.

2nd Top Referring Site for the Month of July - $10 Joe’s Crab Shack Gift Card, a t-shirt from Lijit Search and a review of your site by me included in the normal rotation of posts on Discovering Dad.

3rd Top Referring Site for the Month of July - A prize pack of 8 popular books from Hachette Book Group USA, including A is for Atticus: Baby Names from Great Books, The Marriage Benefit and six others.

Random Weekly Winners - each week I will also give out prizes to new random subscribers, including another $50 SmartyPig Gift Card during the final week of July.

*Note: If you would like to be a sponsor and donate a prize to this contest, please send me an e-mail.  I will be giving out multiple prizes each week to random new subscribers.  I’d love to increase the Referral and Random prizes even more, but that will depend on getting more sponsors.

Finally, assuming I have the kind of readers and blog friends that I do, WHEN I win Blogging Idol I will throw in another $100 American Express Gift Card to the Top Referring Site!!! (I have to WIN First Prize in the competiton for this to happen though ;-) )

Do you have any badges already created that I can use to promote the contest?

You know what will work best on your site, so feel free to get creative! Leave a comment and let me know if you post something, so that I can check it out too. ;-)

I really appreciate everyone’s support of Discovering Dad. I’m confident that I stand a great chance of becoming the first ever Blogging Idol with the help of all of you!  With the millions of moms and dads out there, it should be no problem to get hundreds (thousands?) of people to subscribe.

The site with the greatest increase in subscribers during the month of July wins the title of Blogging Idol!

Thanks again for your ongoing support, and if you’re not already a subscriber, please Subscribe Now via RSS or enter your e-mail address here.

    7. [...] Blogging Idol - I decided to enter the Blogging Idol competition hosted by Daniel at Daily Blog Tips because I want to focus on expanding this site.  Discovering Dad has the potential to be both a fun blog that chronicles my personal experiences about “learning what it means to be a good Dad” and a resource site for dads and parents. The competition is based on increasing RSS and e-mail subscribers, so I’ve been working on various strategies both on and off the site. Two specific strategies I’ll share are the Top Referrer Contest and adding the What Would Seth Godin Do Wordpress Plugin to the site (it’s the small box that greets you when you view individual post pages).
