My Young Son’s Favorite Expressions
Ty is almost 20 months old, and he is already talking up a storm. He says some words more often than others though, and he is also learning to string multiple words together into simple sentences and expressions. It’s a fun and exciting time to witness a child learning how to talk, and I often get a laugh out of both the things he says and ways he says it.
Here’s a few of his favorite expressions:
1. “Where Mama? Work? Bye-byes?” or “Where Chani? School? Bye-byes?” - every time he asks where someone is he also looks around and makes the fishy face while holding his palms up in the air near his shoulders. It’s really cute!
2. “I dun-nu-not-knowww!” - every time I ask him a question (other than where somebody is), he breaks out this stumbling yet accurate answer along with an inquisitive look up at me.
3. “Hello - Yes - Bye-bye!” - give him a phone, and he will inevitably say these three words right off the bat. The funny part is that he yells each of the words, and then runs away from me with the phone.
4. “Ooooo-kayyyy!” - when I ask Ty if he wants something that I know he does, he breaks out the long, drawn-out OK. He’s also starting to say “Okey-dokey,” but not very often yet. What makes the way he says OK amusing is the dance that goes along with it. He shuffles around like a young Fred Astaire, and it makes me smile every time.
5. “I-ove-you!” - he is a very loving boy, but “L”s are hard letters to say at the beginning of words for him. No matter how he says this, though, it makes my heart melt every time.
6. “Fuunn-nnyy!” - yes, amazingly enough, he is already learning sarcasm. He says this at the perfect times, and his dry facial expression when he says it is classic.
I look forward to him learning more amusing phrases and expressions, and I’ll be sure to share them when he does!
