Predict Your Kids Future
One of the things that comes up often in my family is conversations about what our kids might be like when they grow up. Everything from eye and hair color, height, weight, smarts, athleticism, skills and personality is pondered.
It’s fun to speculate, but we don’t obsess over it. I found a few really cool tools, though, for those of you who don’t have a crystal ball:
1. Kid’s Height Predictor - very simple and straight forward with 6 fields and then the answer. It said Chani (14) would be 5′ 2″; Ty (2) would be 6′ 1″; and, Caitlin (6 weeks old) 5′ 7″. What does it say for your kids? Anyone have grown kids that can verify accuracy?
2. Children’s Growth Chart Percentiles - another simple calculator with 3 entry fields. This one is for little kids, and it said that Ty was in the 97th-plus percentile. Caitlin is in the 10th percentile for weight and 20th percentile for height. The calculator for older kids put Chani in the 10th percentile for both height and weight.
3. Is Your Child Ambidextrous? - based on this article and my observations of my kids, none of them are naturally ambidextrous (might be too young to tell for the baby though).
4. Are you Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? - apparently, I am not.
5. How much will it cost to raise my kids? - between all 3 kids, we are in the hole for ove $1 Million. OUCH!!! Can you say scholarships?
6. How many calories does my kid need each day? - our kids seem to be at or slightly above the recommendation. We worry about Ty though because he is a very picky eater - it recommends 1700 calories a day for him.
7. What color eyes will our baby have? - Two of our kids have brown/hazel eyes. Based on the chart, our newest has a 50/50 shot at blue eyes.
8. How much allowance money should I pay my kid? Seriously? I don’t like the concept of allowance. I prefer to pay for services rendered at the time fo service, you know what I mean?
I’m sure there are a ton of these calculators, predictors and articles to help fuel the speculation about your kids future. Please share any leads that you find!

These are great! I will have to try them out on my Divas to see what happens. For my line of work there are also a couple of things to predict as well and that is how much you should be saving if you plan to support your child for a college education…below are a few links… be ready though…it might depress you a bit…

very cool honey! Love the compilation! Maybe there is hope that at least ONE of the kids will look like me (for my sake, not theirs!)
Love you!

Great…I’m supposed to be playing catch-up at work after a week-long vacation and now I find myself predicting my kid’s future. BTW, Z-Dub might be 5′9″ when he’s an adult.

I’m almost smarter than a 5th grader. Brazil is huge but Chile is loooong. As for the other stuff… my wife and I both have brown eyes; that predictor made Michael’s blue eyes a real long shot.
As for allowance, peh. My kids don’t appreciate money that’s handed to them. They have to earn it.

Thanks for the interesting topic! Another question pumped up from my head, which is “How much time parents have to hang in with the kids?” whatever happy time or hard time, they will be sweet memories!
Comment by Jeremy on 8 July 2008:
I’ve got a poll running on the front page of Discovering Dad about how much time parents get to spend with kids each day. You should definitely vote Cana!

This was a fun post…I was having a blast at first. Found out I was smarter than a 5th grader, my daughters stats seemed to come in fine. Then I got to the expense of raising a child calculator and my whole day was ruined.
