Depression sucks. It sucks the life out of a person. Going untreated it can affect not only you but also those you care about the most. Your family and friends may not know what it is about you that makes you the way you are unless you tell them. Most people who have depression never seek help and go through life with a black hole in the pit of their soul.

Integrity is generally defined as adhering to a specific moral code or set of values. A person with integrity is someone you can trust and rely upon to do what is right, even if it’s not popular. As a parent, I believe my words and actions mean something to my kids - they watch and learn from my example, so acting with integrity is critical if I want them to grow into responsible and trustworthy individuals.

Make Time for Yourself - Know When to Tap Out
I’m exhausted after a long day at work. All I want to do is go home and relax. As a parent, though, my day is not done when work is over. Parenting is my second full-time job. It’s challenging to maintain a balanced life with so many competing priorities at work and home. Every once in a while, I need a break from things to recharge my batteries and find that balance.

When I was growing up, I was always the daredevil of the neighborhood. I had no fear. I was also slightly accident prone, which didn’t mix well with my willingness to constantly step out on the edge. I had several hundred stitches and multiple broken bones by the time I was 10 years old.

Spotlight on Dads - Bill Heaton
This week’s spotlight shines on Bill Heaton from Bill and Jill. Bill and I share several things in common - it’s uncanny really, just how many coincidences and connections there are. We’re neighbors on Alltop.com, and we’re “neighbors” in real life too (only live about 20 minutes apart). The really ironic thing is that Bill (and Jill) actually live in a house built by one of my ancestors over 100 years ago.

It was late in 2006 that we began seeing some odd behavior. My daughter, then in middle school, began to complain of aches and pains at strategic times, usually in transit to school. Her grades began to slip, and we would receive repeated reports from her teachers about missed assignments.

Do It Because I Said So!
As parents, we always want what’s best for our children. One of those things is to protect them at all costs. We will make imperative statements to them on a routine basis and not necessarily explain why we are making them.
