With nearly 180,000 vehicles sold in the first six months of the year, the Californian group maintains a comfortable lead over its competitors.
While all car manufacturers are hard at work to accelerate their offensive in the field of electric cars, the Californian Tesla remains well at the head of registrations of the segment. According to calculations made by the specialized site EV Sales, the Californian group totaled 179,050 registrations and represented 28% of the world market during the first half of 2020. Almost tied, the Renault-Nissan Alliance and the Volkswagen group respectively total 65,521 and 64,542 registrations over the first six months of the year, ie a market share of around 10%. Then come the Chinese group BYD and the Korean duo Hyundai-Kia with a 7% market share and respective volumes of 46,554 and 43,689 units.

If we include registrations of plug-in hybrid models, Tesla also retains its first place, but with a market share reduced to 19%. The Volkswagen group jumped to second position. With 124,018 units sold, the German manufacturer captures 13% of the world market and passes the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which is content with 9% with 84,501 registrations. Out of the ranking, the Chinese BYD gives way to the BMW group (68,503 – 7%) while the Korean group Hyundai – Kia retains its fifth place with 7% market share and a total of 63,731 vehicles sold.
