With 9,601 registrations recorded in November, the French electric car market held up despite the new period of confinement. Automobile Propre lists the best-selling models using figures provided by Avere France.
Will the Renault ZOE be dethroned one day? Right now, that’s not about to happen. With 2,944 units sold in November, the city car with the diamond achieves a result more than twice that of its chalengeuse. With 1,258 registrations, the Peugeot e-208 takes second place in the French market but remains far behind its rival. Surprise guest of the Top 3, the small Volkswagen e-Up closes the podium with 520 registrations.
Next come, neck and neck, the two great rivals of the moment: the Tesla Model 3 and the Volkswagen ID.3. With 501 units sold, the Californian won narrowly against the 497 registrations recorded by the German compact. With 478 units sold, the Kia e-Niro is not far behind, followed by the 100% electric version of the Mini, which has sold 405 copies.
As for the newcomers, three models appear in November. With 307 units sold, the Fiat 500e is propelled to tenth place in the standings, just behind the Peugeot e-2008. With 2 registrations, the Lexus 300e seems to boil down to a few pre-series today. Ditto for the Dacia Spring. Expected for March 2021, the low-cost city car is limited for the moment to a single copy registered on French soil.
More than 90,000 registrations since the start of the year
The month of December being rather favorable for car registrations, the electric car market should for the first time exceed the milestone of 100,000 units sold over a full year. In the first 11 months of the year, we are now at over 90,000 registrations.
With more than 31,000 units sold since the start of the year, the Renault ZOE remains far ahead and represents 35% of the market. With more than 15,000 registrations, the Peugeot e-208 finished in second position and captured 16% of the market. The two French city cars alone represent more than 45,000 registrations over the year, or more than 50% of the French market.
In third position, the Tesla Model 3 has accumulated 5599 registrations. It is closely followed by the Hyundai Kona and the Kia e-Niro, which have sold 4,682 and 4,488 units respectively since the start of the year.
