Following the first ZS EV, British brand MG Motor unveils its second model, a 258 hp plug-in hybrid SUV promising 52 km of electric range.
After a first electric car, MG France passes the second in France with the release of a first compact plug-in hybrid SUV. With 4.57 meters long and culminating at 1.66 m, the MG EHS has a facies close to the ZS EV, its silhouette having false airs of Renault Kadjar. The EHS adopts a very classic interior, but more modern than its electric cousin. It has digital meters and a 10.2-inch screen at the top of the console, compatible with Apple / Android. However, the SUV is fishing a little by its trunk of only 448 liters, or 1,375 liters with the bench folded down.
Under the hood, a 162 hp 1.5-liter engine cooperates with a 122 hp (90 kW) electric unit. The whole has 258 horsepower and 370 Nm. Configured as two-wheel drive, the MG EHS achieves 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds. It can climb up to 190 km / h (130 km / h in electric). It communicates a theoretical consumption of 1.8 l / 100 km, for 43 g / km of CO2.
The CATL battery of the plug-in hybrid SUV accumulates 16.6 kWh of capacity. It provides an electric range of 52 kilometers in the WLTP cycle (again theoretical). Charging takes place on the rear right-hand hatch, not in the front like on the MG ZS. The maximum charging power is 3.7 kW, which will allow you to refuel in 4.30 hours from the correct outlet.
A plug-in hybrid cheaper than its rivals
The brand ensures that orders are started today, with a few copies already in the network. Two finishes make up the range. The first Comfort starts at a price of € 33,700 excluding bonuses, i.e. a price equivalent to that of the Renault Captur plug-in hybrid, while the second Luxury starts at € 36,200. The Comfort finish includes GPS or dual-zone air conditioning, while the Luxury offers leather sports seats, a sunroof and a 360-degree camera. The EHS has only two options: metallic paint (gray, black, red) and a red interior.
From 15 distributors, MG France will increase to “80 new points of sale” announces the commercial director Julien Robert. The brand is also increasing the warranty of its models from 5 to 7 years, or 150,000 kilometers. The sales target is set at 5,000 vehicles.
Two more electric MGs in 2021
MG promises two other novelties in 2021. In June, the first will be “the flagship model” of the brand, a “100% electric C segment” adds Jean-Briac Dalibard, director of MG France. The second will follow, a “lower model, 100% electric” to be launched in September. It is not yet certain whether this is the MG 5 EV station wagon or the small MG 3 EV we were talking about.
