Initially unveiled in December 2019, the project of these 22 students from the Eindhoven University of Technology may have seemed absurd to some, yet they did indeed materialize in just a few months and mainly using materials. recycled.

Indeed, this beautiful little car called Luca, with the appearance of a sportswoman, is made on the outside of flax fibers combined with plastic waste extracted from the ocean, plastic bottles and recycled ABS plastics. The chassis is also an assembly of these materials. The yellow finish of the car is a wrap which is also a recycled material.

220 km of range and a top speed of 90 km / h

Inside the car, the seats are coconut and horsehair wrapped in recycled plastic bottles. The entire car weighs just 360 kg, plus batteries that weigh 60 kg. Two electric motors power the rear wheels of the car and help it reach a top speed of 90 km / h. The range of the car reaches 220 kilometers. On the consumption side, the university estimates that if we compare Luca to a traditional car, it would consume around 180 km per liter of gasoline.

According to Matthijs va Wijk, a team member quoted by TNW, the car aims to demonstrate that waste is valuable and can be used to make things as sophisticated as cars. The students are currently considering how to allow Luca to use public roads. But who knows, car manufacturers can dig in there for new ideas for their next electric vehicle projects.
