Delfast Top 3.0, the electric mountain bike that challenges motorcycles
69.9 kg, torque of 182 Nm, 19 “wheels, VAE mode, 6,249 euros
With the development of electric motors, the border between motorbike and bicycle is increasingly blurring and it is not the latest production from Delfast that will say the opposite. American manufacturer of electric bikes, Delfast presents the third evolution of its Top bike, named for the occasion Top 3.0. More power, autonomy and technology, the VAE which is not one does not have much to envy to the traditional enduros.
Resting on a steel frame supporting a Panasonic 72v48ah battery, the Top 3.0 has a 3000 W motor integrated into the rear wheel. With a torque announced at 182 Nm, the electric “bike” promises a top speed of 80 km / h. Compared to the previous model, it abandons its transmission chain for a carbon belt. In terms of autonomy, the battery allows it to reach up to 320 km of autonomy.
On the cycle side, braking is provided at the front by two hydraulic disc brakes and a single rear disc, all mounted on 19-inch spoked rims fitted with 80 / 100-19 motorcycle tires. The suspension is based on a DNM USD-8S inverted fork at the front and on a DNM RCP-2S shock at the rear. The whole weighs 69.9 kg, which is at the same time very little for a motorcycle, and enormous for a bicycle, even electric.
LED lighting, mirrors with integrated turn signals, color meter, USB port and mobile connectivity complete the equipment. Many options can be added such as a reinforced rear loop supporting a motorcycle saddle or side supports and the saddlebags that go with it.
But with 80 km / h and despite the pedals … it’s not really a bike but rather a motorcycle!
In the meantime, announced at 6,249 euros excluding options, the Delfast Top 3.0 is currently sold for pre-order for 5,299 euros. The only problem is that in this configuration it cannot be used as is in France, even if the brand announces that it has set up a VAE mode limited to 25 km / h pedaling assistance. To use it in full power, it will have to be approved and registered in the same way as a 125.
