A doctor arriving on a cargo bike? No, this is not a scene from a movie but what will become reality in the big French cities. In Paris, they are already two or three to use these new means of transport to intervene in patients. Usually, cargo bikes carry packages or frozen sherbets.
Recently, their boxes have housed plumbers ‘tool boxes or osteopaths’ massage oils. From now on, the doctors of the Medical Emergencies of Paris travel by electric bike! And that’s probably a really good idea. Explanations.
The result of a collaboration between Les Urgences Médicales de Paris and the company Ecox, they created the first emergency bikes. These cargo bikes are equipped with a large white box and a blue long-range flashing light… No doubt, the look of these cargo ships leaves nothing else to imply… It is indeed a doctor who overlaps it.
In Paris, traffic jams are such that doctors arrive at patients far too long after their calls. Some doctors don’t even come! If you add parking problems to this, getting a doctor to your home in Paris is almost impossible.
Saving time for doctors and patients
Emergency bikes allow doctors to get around traffic jams faster and to park. What is more, Ecox is already working for the transition to ecomobility and enables the clean movement of vehicles. To top it off, the medical cargo bikes are equipped with a powerful horn that leaves no doubt about its purpose: to sneak up! And arrive as quickly as possible on intervention.

Paris: doctors on cargo bikes to intervene more quickly and save lives
In Paris, around 350 calls arrive each day at the regulation center and 250 visits that would require travel. Before these cargo bikes, some doctors said they had to finish their journey by Véli’b or on foot… Now they can work on a cargo bike! Useful no?
